Activated carbon preparation from eucalyptus wood chips using continuous carbonization–steam activation process in a batch intermittent rotary kiln

Abstract The production of activated carbon from eucalyptus wood chips by steam activation in a 2000 kg batch intermittent rotary kiln with continuous carbonization–steam process conducted at 500 °C to 700 was studied. products were characterized FTIR, SEM–EDS, Raman spectroscopy, and BET analysis. Percent yields, iodine number, methylene blue number the produced materials measured as well. It shown that percent yields made temperature range are 21.63 ± 1.52%–31.79 0.70% capacities 518–737 mg I 2 /g 70.11–96.93 blue/g. surface area micropore volume carbons 426.8125–870.4732 m 0.102390–0.215473 cm 3 /g, respectively. used could create various oxygen containing functional groups such –CO –COC groups. In addition, it also increase amorphous nature product. These properties increased increasing °C. As result, temperatures 600 exhibit higher adsorption.
